This Privacy Policy explains how the Abyss iOS app ("Abyss" or "the App") handles information. Abyss is published by Louie Gaiser (see Imprint for provider details). If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or the App's handling of data, you can contact us at abyssdivelog@icloud.com.
Protecting your privacy is very important to us. Abyss is designed to function primarily offline and to keep your data on your device. As a rule, the App does not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on external servers. No data is shared with third parties unless you explicitly choose to export or share it yourself.
1. Summary
Abyss is a dive logbook app. It is designed to work offline and to store your dive data locally on your device. No account is required by default, and no personal dive data is transmitted to us or to third parties unless you actively choose to share or export it.
2. Data Stored Locally on Your Device
Abyss stores information locally within the App on your device. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export or share it yourself. Locally stored data may include:
- Dive entries (such as date, time, depth, duration, notes, ratings, and similar information)
- Dive sites, trips, and gear configurations
- Dive profiles and media attached to a dive
- Profile information you choose to enter (such as your name, certification, or unit preferences)
3. Device Permissions
Abyss may request access to certain device features. Each permission is optional and used only for the specific purpose described below:
- Location: to tag a dive with its geographic position when you add it. This location data is stored locally with the dive entry.
- Photo Library: to allow you to attach photos to a dive. These photos remain in your photo library and are not uploaded by the App.
You can revoke these permissions at any time in the iOS Settings app.
4. Analytics and Tracking
Abyss does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not track your activity across apps, websites, or services.
5. Crash Reports and Diagnostics
If you have enabled Apple's option to share analytics and crash data with app developers, Apple may provide us with anonymized crash and diagnostic reports through App Store Connect. These reports are governed by Apple's own terms and do not include your dive log data.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. Your data only leaves the App if you explicitly decide to export or share it.
7. Children
Abyss is not directed to children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Your Rights
Because your data is stored locally on your device, you remain in control of it at all times. You can delete individual dives or remove the App entirely to delete its locally stored data. If you contact us by email and provide personal information in that context, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of that information in accordance with applicable data protection law.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as Abyss evolves. Any material changes will be reflected in this policy and, where appropriate, communicated within the App.
